The Dutch NGO Meet Kate was founded in 2008 with as a main goal starting a children’s home in Agona Swedru, Ghana. Kate functions as an inspiration for the NGO. She is a happy, inquisitive and enthusiastic girl despite her troubled situation at home. Kate’s situation at home was so bad that she had to be taken in by Philomena. Philomena is the second inspiration for Meet Kate. She has been working as a nurse at the local school for the last 30 years where she saw many problems and often took children home. The idea of starting a children’s home originated from her experience. Meet Kate the Netherlands has started a local NGO in Ghana and the board members of Meet Kate will assist Philomena actively with the start of the children’s home and they will be present in Ghana to actively guide the starting phase of the home.
