The protestant municipality of Old- and Nijberkoop has started working on projects in eastern-Java in 1995. The projects are focused on supporting the Christian communities who have difficulty existing in this country where the majority of people is Muslim.
They started with renovating a local church. They also financially support children living in a orphanage. In 1999 they started to support a Christian primary school named “Petra” in Banyuangi. The financial support this school receives is used for teaching materials and maintenance of the building. In 2003 a contribution was done to the construction of a kindergarten.
