In June 2019 the Rural Women Foundation built new toilet facilities and provided clean drinking water for the Divine Mercy primary school in Awoidemili in Southeast Nigeria.

The school did not have a water well and thus the students had no access to clean drinking water. They collected rainwater in a large tub and the only toilets on school grounds were squat toilets.
To reduce illness and mortality amongst young children the Rural Women Foundation built a water well with pump and filter system, a water tower (with a capacity of 12,000 litres), taps in the school building and a toilet block with hygienic facilities.

Local residents were also allowed to make use of the facilities for the benefit of the entire community. The foundation built water taps around the school complex for the community.

The Marthe van Rijswijck Foundation contributed financially to the drinking water facilities.
