In 2015 Nepal was struck by a big earthquake that brought great damage to the area of Khanjim and Bridhim. Many children were traumatised by the disaster and no longer wanted to attend school.
The Karuna Foundation wanted to support regional education together with the Ministry of Education and Department of Education by rebuilding the damaged school. Furthermore, the goal was to make sure children would be able to attend preschool activities and could get primary and secondary educations.

The project mostly focussed on household that had been affected by the earthquake with special attention for marginalised groups such as female headed families and people with a disability.

Building the new school did not come without challenges. The logistics of the project were quite the challenge as some villages were only reachable by foot. Furthermore, on the designated site a large rock was found which needed to be removed before the build could begin. However, the project was a huge succes and the school was finished. This means the children are able to attend school again.
