NME Mundial has been running vegetable garden projects in Cochabamba since 2008. The educational projects focus on nature, environmental issues and vegetable gardening and thus support people in growing their own food.
The Marthe van Rijswijck Foundation support the vegetable garden projects at schools. Every week, children attend 80 minutes of lessons on how to set up and maintain square meter plot: 40 minutes of theorie and then 40 in the garden.
The programme includes the following lessons:
1 Location and planning of the plot
2 Preparation
3 Sowing seeds
4 Planting seedlings
5 Composting
6 Irrigation
7 Plant disease
8 Harvesting
9 Crop rotation
10 Urban gardening
11 Seed acquisition
The Marthe van Rijswijck Foundation has contributed to two vegetable garden projects at schools. NME Mundial has helped children develop 159 square meter plots.
