In 2011 NPH-Peru opened a family house Casa Santa Rose de Lima in San Vicente de Cañete. After 7 years of using the original materials, it was high time for some of the appliances and furniture to be repaired and/or replaced.
In total, there are 102 children living in the house. Many of these children have trauma’s which often leads to bed-wetting. The children go to therapy to help them cope with their past and sleep on plastic matras covers to protect the mattresses. These covers are very hygienic but need to be replaced after a certain period of time when tears start to form. Often, this means that the matras is due for replacement as well. In total, 20 mattresses needed to be replaced.
Furthermore, many other pieces of furniture or household appliances were due for replacement or maintenance. These were; washing machines, fridges, microwaves and cupboards,
The Marthe van Rijswijck foundation contributed to the costs of the repairs and replacements.
The new furniture and appliances make the house feel as new. The children can get a good night’s rest again and all chores can be performed properly using the new appliances.
