Childslife international has been working since 2000 with the Maasai population of the Kajado district in Kenya. They work in this area with a local partner organization whose projects are focused on education and improving the position of women in the communities.

The local Maasai community has requested Childslife International to build a girls dormitory in the compound of the Oloyiankalani mixed secondary school. The ultimate goal is that 64 girls will be able to sleep, eat and study here during the school week. The students of this school come from different communities in the area. Some children have to walk hours to school this is caused by the limited amount of schools in the area. Even though Maasai people are used to walk for long periods of time, the distance to the school does have a negative effect on the number of girls attending the school.

The pictures show the location of the new dormitory and the end result.
